Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh handed the Governor's Unit Citation to the 20th Battalion of the Assam Rifles on Monday. The ceremony took place at Lok Bhawan in Aizawl. It honored the unit for top-tier performance during its deployment in the state.

The battalion spent time stationed at Lunglawn in Lunglei district from November 2023 through March 2026. Singh credited the soldiers for holding the Indo-Myanmar border steady against regional instability. They worked closely with intelligence and local police to shut down narcotics trafficking and other cross-border crimes.

Singh called the force the "Sentinels of the North East" and the "Friends of the Hills" during his speech. He pointed to the unit's community work as a major win. The soldiers ran anti-drug drives, held medical camps, and supported ex-servicemen to build trust with locals.

Brigadier Puspendar Sorayan, Commandant Jaswinder Singh, and several senior officers watched the presentation. The Governor challenged the next units to keep the same standard of service. The battalion continues to stand by the core values of Seva, Suraksha, and Bandhutva.
