Aizawl: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted a six-month extension to Mizoram’s primary environmental clearance committees. This decision pushes the total tenure for the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and the State Expert Appraisal Committee to three-and-a-half years.

According to the official notification, the terms for the chairman and members of both bodies will now run until December 12, 2026. These panels are essential for managing development proposals across the state. The Expert Appraisal Committee is tasked with evaluating environmental impacts and providing professional recommendations, while the Impact Assessment Authority holds the final authority to approve project clearances.

The ministry stated that this extension aims to maintain uninterrupted operations and avoid delays in the approval process while awaiting the reconstitution of the committees. This move reflects a broader effort by the central government to keep environmental oversight in Mizoram robust and consistent.
