Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta dismissed claims that foreign nationals infiltrated the state’s electoral rolls. The denial follows complaints from the Mizo Zirlai Pawl student group. They alleged an unnatural voter surge in Chakma-heavy regions. Gupta says exhaustive checks found zero evidence to support these accusations.
Election officials cleared the air in Aizawl. They verified every entry through house visits. Booth Level Officers checked homes three times before marking anyone as untraceable. Officials even talked to neighbors to confirm residency. "After detailed verification, we have not found any instance of a foreign national being included in the electoral rolls. The draft rolls also do not indicate any abnormal or disproportionate rise in the number of voters," Gupta said.
The state rolled out the draft for 2026 across 40 constituencies. It counts 8,28,906 electors. Digitization hit 100 percent for all collected forms. This is a first for the 16 states currently undergoing revision. The process removed thousands of names. Many died or moved away. Others simply went missing.
Officials deleted names of those they could not find. However, voting rights remain. People can file new claims through August 4. The final roll drops on September 6. Mizoram now hosts 1,352 polling stations after adding 52 new locations.
