Aizawl: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee has formally requested that the state government suspend the cess currently applied to petrol and diesel. Party officials argue that this move is necessary to alleviate the financial burden on citizens as the cost of living continues to climb.
Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka, treasurer for the committee, addressed the media on Thursday to explain the party position. He stated that global fuel price hikes, fueled by ongoing instability in West Asia, have significantly impacted consumers across India. These rising costs have triggered a ripple effect by increasing transportation expenses for goods and services.
The opposition party noted that the surge in fuel prices has directly contributed to higher costs for food, daily necessities, public transport, and delivery services. By removing the state fuel cess, the party believes the government can provide immediate relief to struggling households. The Congress has pressed the state administration to implement this change quickly to help manage the ongoing inflationary pressure.
