Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called for a coordinated development strategy across Northeast India to unlock the region's full economic potential. Addressing the 73rd plenary session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong, he argued that enhanced regional integration and infrastructure connectivity are essential for the area to become a major driver of national growth.

During the session, Lalduhoma presented the final report of the High-Level Task Force on the Northeast Economic Corridor to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The report recommends a One Grid Approach to harmonize roads, railways, air travel, and digital infrastructure under a single regional framework. This initiative seeks to capitalize on the upcoming completion of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project.

The Chief Minister identified sectors such as agriculture, bamboo, green energy, and textiles as critical to future economic stability. He also advocated for a unified tourism circuit and improved trade logistics to leverage the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway. Lalduhoma emphasized the need for better institutional support, stating, "The Northeast could emerge as a major logistics and trade gateway under the Act East Policy."

Beyond infrastructure, the proposal highlights the necessity of youth empowerment through skill development and technology-driven startups. Lalduhoma requested that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the NEC establish a stronger coordination mechanism to monitor development programs and ensure the effective use of the 10 percent gross budgetary support allocated to the region.
