Aizawl: Mizoram officials cleared 46,191 names from the state voter rolls after a weeks-long verification push. The Special Intensive Revision ended Sunday with data digitised and files updated. Mizoram Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii confirmed the move leaves the state with 828,877 registered voters.

Death took the largest toll. Officials removed 21,290 deceased individuals and 13,992 residents who moved away. Another 8,352 people vanished during the audit, while 2,245 duplicates hit the trash. Some voters stayed off the books for personal reasons. Rothangpuii said: "312 individuals were excluded after they declined to enrol or re-enrol during the revision exercise due to religious beliefs."

The state publishes the draft electoral rolls on July 4. Citizens have until August 4 to file claims or objections. This audit arrives as the Mizo Zirlai Pawl student group demands a closer look at Chakma-majority regions. They claim voter numbers jumped abnormally in border villages. The group flagged 97 new villages that did not exist back in 2005. Election officials say they are currently investigating these specific concerns.
