Aizawl: The Young Mizo Association (YMA) and major church bodies in Mizoram are intensifying their collaborative efforts to combat the state's growing drug crisis. Leaders from the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) and the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC) met in Aizawl on Tuesday to coordinate a stronger community response against narcotics trafficking and substance abuse.

CYMA General Secretary Malsawmliana emphasized that the current escalation of drug issues among youth and families requires deeper involvement from both civil society and religious institutions. As part of this push, the CYMA has requested that churches across the state hold synchronized prayer programs to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug addiction.

The meeting also addressed administrative concerns regarding the misuse of church documentation. CYMA officials urged church authorities to tighten verification processes for baptismal and other certificates, ensuring these documents are not issued to non-residents or foreign nationals without proper checks.

Beyond the anti-drug agenda, the organizations committed to strengthening social cohesion. Following a resolution from last year's YMA general assembly, the groups are working to prevent ethnic division and foster unity among different Mizo communities. Church leaders were encouraged to champion these values of harmony and inclusiveness to ensure stability across the state.
