Aizawl: The Central Young Mizo Association and the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee have pledged to escalate their collaborative efforts against drug abuse in Mizoram. Representatives from the state's leading civil society group and the primary church umbrella organization met in Aizawl on Tuesday to address the intensifying narcotics crisis.

CYMA General Secretary Malsawmliana noted that while churches have long been active in fighting substance abuse, the current situation demands more aggressive intervention. To increase awareness, the association proposed that local congregations host special prayer programs under a unified theme. This effort aims to rally community support and combat the damage narcotics cause to local families.

Beyond drug prevention, the organizations discussed administrative safeguards. Church leaders were advised to exercise strict oversight when issuing baptismal certificates to ensure they are not granted to foreign nationals or non-local residents without thorough verification.

The groups also addressed the importance of local unity. Following a resolution from last year's YMA general assembly, the leadership encouraged churches to actively discourage ethnic divisions. By promoting social cohesion, these organizations hope to foster greater harmony and reduce feelings of alienation among the diverse Mizo community.
