Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma stated on June 4 that the state is struggling to manage the persistent arrival of displaced people from Myanmar. Speaking in Shillong, he warned that the ongoing conflict in the neighboring country will likely force more refugees to cross the border in the coming months.
Mizoram shares a porous border with Myanmar and maintains deep ethnic and cultural ties with communities living there. These connections have prompted the state to host thousands of people fleeing political instability and armed violence. Despite this support, the Chief Minister highlighted that the prolonged crisis is creating significant financial and administrative challenges for the local government.
Addressing the pressure on infrastructure and public services, the Chief Minister said, "Due to the geopolitical condition there, we are getting many displaced people nowadays. It's likely that we will get more people seeking safety. This has become a burden for us."
State authorities continue to advocate for greater intervention from the central government. The situation has intensified the need for a coordinated response to manage the humanitarian crisis while alleviating the strain on resources in the northeastern state.
