Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma presented the final report of the High-Level Task Force on the Northeast Economic Corridor to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 73rd North Eastern Council Plenary in Shillong. The session, chaired by Shah, focused on regional growth strategies and development priorities for India's Northeast.
Lalduhoma argued that the Prime Minister's Act East Policy creates a vital framework for future progress. He advocated for a One-Grid Approach to integrate infrastructure, covering transportation, power, telecommunications, and logistics. He specifically noted that with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project nearing completion, the region must proactively prepare for new trade and institutional opportunities.
The Chief Minister suggested moving away from isolated projects in favor of cluster-based investments in sectors like bamboo, green energy, and agri-horticulture. He also proposed creating a unified Northeast tourism circuit to improve branding and attract more visitors. Addressing the plenary, he stated: "The region is strategically positioned to become a major driver of India's future growth, supported by its natural resources, human capital, and cultural diversity."
To improve project efficiency, Lalduhoma recommended establishing state-level Project Implementation Units and creating a dedicated coordination mechanism for monitoring the 10 percent Gross Budgetary Support. He also emphasized the importance of supporting youth through skill development, entrepreneurship, and start-up ecosystems while highlighting Mizoram's potential as the Ginger Capital of India and the development of the Thenzawl Peace City.
