Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma celebrated the 90th anniversary of All India Radio (AIR) in Aizawl on Monday, praising the public broadcaster for its long-standing role in unifying Zo ethnic communities. He described the network as a trusted source of information that successfully bridges geographical divides between Mizo populations in India and neighbouring countries.

During the event, Lalduhoma highlighted the station's influence in promoting the Mizo language and preserving historical records for future generations. He noted that the Aizawl station, which launched in 1966, acted as a vital communication lifeline during periods of local insurgency and civil unrest. By broadcasting news, hymns, and religious content, the radio station provided stability to residents forced to remain indoors during curfews.

Beyond its regional impact, the Chief Minister recognized the prestige associated with the station's creative legacy. "AIR remains an important guardian of cultural heritage. Achieving AIR Artist status continues to be a highly respected distinction among renowned Mizo singers," he said.

Officials at the gathering noted that AIR operates as one of the world's largest radio networks, reaching audiences in over 100 countries through broadcasts in dozens of languages and dialects. D.R. Lalropuia, the Director and Cluster Head for Mizoram, added that the broadcaster continues to evolve by embracing digital initiatives to keep pace with modern audiences while staying true to its public service mission.
