Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma officially launched a fleet of 219 new police vehicles on June 18 at the 3rd Battalion MAP Parade Ground in Aizawl. The procurement, carried out under the Assistance to States and Union Territories for Modernisation of Police scheme, represents a total investment of Rs 33.83 crore. This funding includes a central contribution of Rs 30.45 crore and a state share of Rs 3.38 crore.
Home Minister K Sapdanga joined senior officials and police leadership to witness the unveiling of the diverse new fleet. The vehicles range from electric scooters and motorcycles to specialised units like prison vans, water tankers, and bullet-resistant transport for VVIP security. The distribution plan covers all 44 police stations, 15 outposts, armed battalions, and the Police Training School to improve law enforcement efficiency.
State officials emphasised that this investment is a major step forward, noting that the government had not been permitted to procure new vehicles under the programme since 2017. Furthermore, the state had not received central funding for this specific scheme since the 2021-22 period. Reflecting on the impact of these resources, government representatives stated that the induction of the new fleet is "expected to significantly strengthen operational mobility, emergency response capabilities, law enforcement efficiency and public service delivery throughout the state."
Beyond the vehicles, Mizoram was granted a total of Rs 43.87 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year to support broader modernisation goals. These additional funds are earmarked for smart policing tools, forensic equipment, and other essential security hardware.
