Aizawl: Security forces in Mizoram have seized more than 1.5 kilograms of heroin, valued at over Rs 3.3 crore, and arrested five individuals during two separate anti-narcotics operations conducted this week. These actions highlight the state's ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks.

In the first operation on Tuesday, a joint team from the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Central Young Mizo Association intercepted a drug shipment at Sihphir Neihbawi, located on the outskirts of Aizawl. Investigators recovered 971 grams of heroin packed into 67 soap cases and seized two vehicles. Authorities arrested four people in connection with the smuggling attempt, three of whom are residents of Assam. Officials noted that the narcotics originated from Zokhawthar, near the Myanmar border, and were intended for distribution in Assam.

In a separate incident on Monday, police in Saitual district conducted a routine vehicle inspection at Keifang. Officers stopped a vehicle traveling from Churachandpur in Manipur to Aizawl. During the search, they discovered 587 grams of heroin stored in 50 soap cases hidden inside the clothing of a female passenger. The woman was arrested at the scene.
