Aizawl: Authorities in Mizoram arrested five individuals and seized more than 1.5 kilograms of heroin valued at over 3.3 crore in two separate anti-narcotics operations. Officials confirmed the seizures on June 3 following coordinated efforts to curb the smuggling of contraband into the state.

The largest seizure occurred on June 2 near Aizawl, where a joint team from the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Central Anti Drugs Squad of the Central Young Mizo Association intercepted 971 grams of heroin. The drugs were discovered in 67 soap cases inside two vehicles, a Hyundai Santro and a Baleno. Investigators identified the four arrested suspects as Daniel Malsawmdawngliana, Suwar Uddin Laskar, Basir Uddin Laskar, and Hifjul Bahar. The group reportedly intended to transport the heroin from the border town of Zokhawthar to Assam.

All four suspects face charges under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. If convicted, they could face prison sentences of 10 to 20 years and significant fines. They have since been presented before a special court in Aizawl.

In a separate incident on June 1, Saitual police conducted a routine vehicle check at Keifang. During the inspection of a car traveling from Manipur to Aizawl, officers discovered 587 grams of heroin hidden in the clothing of a female passenger. Police arrested the woman immediately. Across both operations, authorities confiscated a total of 1.558 kilograms of heroin.
