Aizawl: The Mizoram government plans to hire 444 new security personnel to strengthen its forces. Home Minister K Sapdanga announced the recruitment drive, which includes 350 police positions and 94 roles for Home Guards. The police intake is split between 200 armed personnel and 150 unarmed constables. For the Home Guard positions, notifications are already out, though the current round is restricted to male applicants because the government has already met its female reservation quota.
Sapdanga stated that all candidates must have completed Class 10. The selection process will focus entirely on merit, physical fitness, and discipline. The minister explicitly warned against seeking political recommendations, insisting that outside influence will play no part in the hiring process. Successful Home Guard candidates will begin with a three-year term, which is subject to extension based on service regulations.
In addition to the recruitment effort, Sapdanga introduced a Rs 35 crore infrastructure initiative known as Mission Urban Drain. This project aims to mitigate the risks of landslides and flooding in Aizawl by improving drainage systems. The plan includes upgrading wastewater channels to connect with larger corridors and, where possible, building roads or pedestrian paths over covered drains.
Preliminary surveys are complete, with work scheduled for 44 sites across the state. The initial phase will prioritize the most vulnerable areas of Aizawl before the project expands to other district headquarters. The government expects to finalize this comprehensive safety and infrastructure development by 2033.
