Aizawl: Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga announced a new recruitment drive to add 350 police officers and 94 home guards to the state security forces. The police intake will consist of 150 unarmed constables and 200 armed personnel. These roles are reserved for male candidates, as the women's quota is currently full. Applicants must have completed at least tenth grade, and selection will be based strictly on merit, physical fitness, and discipline. The minister emphasized that outside political influence or nepotism will have no place in the hiring process.
Alongside the recruitment news, Sapdanga introduced the Mission Urban Drain project, a 35 crore rupee initiative designed to improve infrastructure in Aizawl. The project addresses frequent landslides and flooding by creating a master drainage map for the city. Work will span 44 locations across the capital, prioritizing high-risk areas before eventually expanding to other districts.
Engineering standards for the new drainage system will focus on channeling wastewater into larger networks to prevent congestion. In areas where it is practical, the government plans to cover these drains to create new roads, pathways, and stairways to help navigate the hilly terrain. The state aims to complete this infrastructure overhaul by 2033.
