Kohima: Nagaland Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, officially opened a new academic building at Zunheboto Government College on Friday. This project, funded through the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan scheme, represents a collaborative effort between the Union Ministry of Education and the state government.
During the ceremony, Along highlighted the need for students to evolve beyond traditional mindsets. He encouraged the younger generation to treat education as a tool for societal contribution rather than just a pursuit of academic titles. He warned against complacency, urging citizens to replace complaints with constructive action to address the state's human resource challenges.
Reflecting on the facility's development, the minister praised the quality of the new construction. He remarked, “Transformation does not happen overnight,” while emphasizing that meaningful progress requires resilience and consistent effort. He acknowledged Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for supporting systemic improvements in higher education across Nagaland.
To expand the college's academic reach, the minister announced plans to introduce a Sociology department and a Science stream. He confirmed that the government would create the necessary faculty posts to sustain these programs. Furthermore, he invited local church leaders and community groups to offer free coaching services, noting that the government is prepared to support these initiatives through departmental grants.
Principal Dr. R. Bendangtemjen welcomed the infrastructure project, noting it arrived at a pivotal time as the institution prepares for the fourth-year undergraduate curriculum. Along concluded by urging faculty to model progressive values to help prepare students for professional fields like engineering, medicine, and law.
