Kohima: Nagaland Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along inaugurated a new academic building at Zunheboto Government College on June 5. The project was completed through the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, a central initiative aimed at improving higher education facilities through collaboration between the Indian government and the state of Nagaland.
During the ceremony, the minister praised the quality of the new construction and noted the significant progress the college has made since 2018. Addressing the crowd, he emphasized the long-term nature of progress. "Transformation does not happen overnight," he said. "It requires commitment, resilience and consistent practice within the system."
The minister urged students to look beyond academic degrees and focus on practical applications of their knowledge to address local challenges. He encouraged the youth to move toward constructive action and asked faculty members to model progressive values to help students succeed in broader society. He stressed that "Education is more than a degree or a postgraduate title," describing it instead as a mindset focused on contributing to the community.
Looking toward the future, the minister pledged government support for the creation of a Sociology department and a new Science stream at the college. He also encouraged local leaders and church groups to establish coaching initiatives for students, promising government grants for such efforts. The college principal, Dr. R. Bendangtemjen, hosted the event, highlighting the facility as a vital addition to the campus.
