Meghalaya Youth Empowered Through Sports Programs and Green Entrepreneurship

Shillong: Young people in Meghalaya are participating in new initiatives focused on sports development and sustainable entrepreneurship. In Nongpoh, the Mera Yuva Bharat organization hosted a youth club development event where organizers distributed sports equipment to local clubs. The programme aimed to bolster grassroots athletics and encourage students to engage in community service.

Chief guest and nominated MDC Mathew Makdoh emphasized that youth clubs remain vital for creating positive social change. Hemanta Timung, the state president of BJP ST Morcha, used the platform to advocate for healthier lifestyle choices. He told the attendees, "Urged the youths to avoid substance abuse and embrace constructive activities for a healthier future." The session concluded with a formal pledge to maintain a drug-free society within the district.

Meanwhile, in Shillong, students focused on environmental innovation during the first Green-Preneur interschool competition. Hosted by BDW International School in partnership with PRIME Meghalaya, the event required participants to present eco-friendly business models inspired by the television show Shark Tank. Students proposed various solutions for recycling and waste management.

LEADS Higher Secondary School secured the first-place title, while St. Edmund’s School finished as the runner-up. The competition organizers intend to continue supporting student-led sustainability efforts across the state to foster practical entrepreneurial skills.
