Meghalaya Women's Commission Discusses Safety Concerns with NCW Chief

Shillong: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) met with National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar this week to address critical issues regarding violence against women in the state. MSCW Chairperson Iamonlang Syiem and her team of newly appointed members used the meeting at the State Convention Centre to advocate for stronger institutional protections and better coordination to handle complaints effectively.

The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including the implementation of welfare initiatives, federal funding, and the mandates governing both commissions. Rahatkar provided guidance to the new MSCW members, emphasizing the need for proactive intervention, public awareness, and swift action when responding to cases of stalking and gender-based violence.

Beyond formal meetings, Rahatkar spent her two-day visit reviewing the state commission's operations and engaging in community outreach. Her itinerary included visits to West Jaintia Hills and the inauguration of the Shubham Reusable Sanitary Pad production unit in Shillong. Before returning to New Delhi, she also toured a similar production facility in Khatarshnong and attended an awareness event at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram in Sohra.
