Meghalaya TMC Chief Denies Reports of Mass Leadership Exodus

Shillong: Meghalaya Trinamool Congress state president Charles Pyngrope has dismissed rumors that party leaders are preparing to defect ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. Pyngrope stated that the party remains fully functional and continues to operate out of its Shillong office on a daily basis.

Addressing the speculation, the Opposition MLA confirmed that all current elected representatives remain committed to the TMC. He noted that the state unit stays in regular contact with national leadership to discuss political developments, including the party's strategy for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. The general secretary in charge of the state will provide further updates on the party's roadmap.

Pyngrope also addressed the recent assault on TMC MP and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal. He condemned the violence as a significant violation of democratic standards and warned that the incident suggests broader law and order concerns. He argued that if a Member of Parliament faces such a public attack, it raises alarm regarding the safety of all citizens, calling for high-level intervention to prevent future occurrences.
