Meghalaya Targets End-of-Year Opening for Police Bazar Business Hub

Shillong: The Meghalaya government plans to open a new business and tourism center in Police Bazar by the end of the year. The five-storey building stands on the site of the former MTC office. It is finished. Construction firm Badri Rai and Company built the facility, which features two wings and space for over 90 shops.

The complex includes a food court, gaming zone for kids, art gallery, performing arts center, and an auditorium. An official opening ceremony could happen as early as September. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbahalang Dhar confirmed the timeline on Monday. "We intend to make it functional by the end of this year," Dhar said.

Meanwhile, the Polo Shopping Mall remains closed. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman opened the site last year, but it has not served a single customer since. The government tried to find operators four separate times but received zero bids. Officials have now floated a fresh tender to finally get the stalled mall running.
