Shillong: A two-day national buyer-seller meet kicked off Friday at the State Convention Centre in Shillong. The event, titled From Heritage to Enterprise: Empowering Women Artisans in Northeast India, aims to link local creators with investors from across the country. Organizers want to grow market access for regional goods. The state government, PRIME Meghalaya, the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, and the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency backed the initiative.
Gambegre MLA Mehtab Chandee opened the exhibition by challenging local entrepreneurs to refine their output. She pointed toward specific areas for growth. "The Northeast possesses immense potential, local entrepreneurs must focus more on packaging and production quality." These changes will help local goods compete on global shelves.
Technical sessions dominated the opening day. MBMA Executive Director Saloni Verma spoke on building a startup ecosystem meant to support Viksit Bharat 2047. The meet gives artisans a clear path to showcase their work and sign deals. They aim to turn traditional crafts into thriving, long-term commercial enterprises.
