Meghalaya Shifts to New Rural Employment Scheme with 1,100 Crore Budget

Shillong: The Meghalaya State Cabinet just greenlit the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin. This program dumps the old MGNREGS model for a wider reach. It gives the state 1,100 crore over the next nine months.

Workers get more. The new plan bumps guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days every year. Officials also expanded the list of jobs allowed under the scheme. Expect more rural roads, new school buildings, and better environmental projects.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the wider scope of work gives people more options. He noted, "The expanded scope of permissible works is expected to provide greater flexibility to local communities while addressing developmental needs in rural areas." The government expects this shift to speed up building projects and fix core infrastructure in villages across the state.
