Shillong: Meghalaya experienced a significant boost in State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) collections during May 2026. Official government data reveals that pre-settlement SGST revenue climbed by 43 percent compared to the same period last year, rising from Rs 49 crore in May 2025 to Rs 70 crore.
The state also saw progress in post-settlement revenue. After accounting for the settlement of the SGST portion of Integrated GST (IGST), the revenue increased by 19 percent, moving from Rs 137 crore to Rs 163 crore. This growth performance ranks among the strongest in the northeastern region for the month.
Cumulative figures for the current financial year further reflect this upward trend. Pre-settlement collections grew by 2 percent to reach Rs 171 crore, while post-settlement revenue rose 15 percent to hit Rs 383 crore. Officials noted that these figures demonstrate an improved share of GST receipts through successful inter-state tax settlements.
Despite these gains, the state's total GST revenue saw a downturn. Overall collections dropped to Rs 182 crore in May 2026, a 13 percent decrease from the Rs 210 crore recorded in May 2025.
