Shillong: Meghalaya will build a new Film City and a Film Institute in Shillong. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma shared the news Sunday at the Hello Meghalaya Music Awards. Tura will also get a dedicated Music Institute to train local talent. The state wants to become a top destination for filmmakers and digital creators.

The government treats these creative investments like traditional development projects. It creates jobs for youth. Sangma said, "The government views investments in the creative economy as equally important as traditional development initiatives because they generate employment and enable young people to pursue careers aligned with their passions."

Over 7,000 artists currently receive support through the Chief Minister’s Grassroots Music Programme. The state also pushed its Hello Meghalaya OTT platform, which hit five lakh downloads since launching in 2024. The service hosts over 1,000 titles including music and films. Officials also handed out the second edition of their grant booklet to help local filmmakers produce new web series and features.
