Shillong: The Meghalaya government wants answers. A fact-finding committee is now probing the proposed Shree Cement project in the East Jaintia Hills district. Officials formed the group on September 8, 2026, acting on a September 3 letter. They must explain why a July 31 public hearing ended in total disruption.
The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board originally organized that meeting. Now, the committee holds the mandate to review the social, legal, environmental, and criminal fallout of the facility. CVD Diengdoh, an IAS officer and Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, chairs the panel.
The committee is calling for witnesses. They want input from individuals and organizations alike. You can submit your take in hard or soft copy. Ensure you include your contact details. The deadline is September 29, 2026. Deliver documents to Room No. 320 at the Meghalaya Secretariat or email megfactfindingcommittee@gmail.com. Officials will announce future dates for in-person testimony, as the "committee may consult or hold discussions with different stakeholders as required."
