Shillong: A geyser explosion caused significant damage to a residence at Jaiawpdeng Main Road in Shillong on Saturday. Police report the device, which had been turned on earlier that morning, malfunctioned around 2:35 pm. The blast destroyed two bathroom walls and damaged the rest of the house, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 3 lakh. Fortunately, no one was in the bathroom at the time of the explosion.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a motorcyclist was hospitalized after colliding with a dumper truck near the old Thangkhiew petrol pump. The truck driver fled the scene after the motorcyclist, who was speeding, lost control and struck the side of the vehicle while it was turning. Emergency responders transported the injured rider to the Civil Hospital.

The High Court of Meghalaya issued a ruling allowing Ambiya Begum to run for office in the upcoming Sobribari Village Employment Council election. The decision followed a letter from the local Block Development Officer confirming that authorities no longer oppose her candidacy. The Bench, led by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh, officially set aside the previous disqualification order. The court noted, "In view of the aforesaid, nothing survives for further consideration in the appeal. The appeal stands disposed of."
