Shillong: Meghalaya has officially launched a digital Investigation Monitoring Module alongside new police Standard Operating Procedures. These initiatives aim to modernize case management and improve investigative outcomes under the country’s revised criminal justice framework. The state introduced these measures during a Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition held at the Shillong State Convention Centre on June 18.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong inaugurated the event to help traditional leaders, students, and officials understand the updated legal landscape. He emphasized the government's T3 model, which focuses on timeline, technology, and trust to ensure more effective policing. As part of this push, the state has deployed forensic mobile vans across all 12 districts to assist with evidence collection in remote areas. Additionally, a new Directorate of Prosecution has been established to increase efficiency and minimize delays in pending litigation.
Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang noted that the shift away from colonial-era laws is essential for addressing modern criminal activity. She stated, "The nature of crime has changed considerably over the years, making a modern legal framework necessary." The event also served as a venue to recognize police personnel and engage with local traditional heads regarding the ongoing transition in the justice system.
