Meghalaya High Court Closes Dispute Over St. Edmund’s School Admission

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya has resolved a legal dispute between St. Edmund’s School and the parents of a five-year-old student. The court disposed of the school’s appeal on Tuesday after both parties reached an amicable settlement regarding the child’s KG admission for the 2026 session.

As part of the resolution, the single-judge order issued on May 22, 2026, was set aside. The child returned to the classroom as a regular student on June 8. To facilitate a fresh start, the parents provided an unconditional apology to the school administration. They also agreed to remove all social media posts concerning the incident and requested that news agencies take down related coverage.

The bench, comprised of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee, mandated that all legal records and any digital recordings of the case remain confidential to protect the child. The school provided assurances that the student will face no obstacles regarding promotion to Standard I due to the recent absence. Furthermore, the school committed to treating the student and family with standard fairness, stating, "The school assured that the child and his parents would be treated like any other students and parents."
