Shillong: Meghalaya health officials are hitting remote villages outside normal business hours. Teams are working early mornings and late nights to reach residents. The strategy targets low-performing areas to boost maternal and child health access.
Dr. G. M. Nongrum of Mawkynrew Primary Health Centre held a session at 8 pm in Mawkria village. The talk covered the necessity of first-trimester antenatal care, timely ultrasounds, and routine immunizations. Doctors stressed that these steps are vital for better outcomes for mothers and infants.
On July 30, Dr. A. Lyngdoh led an outreach event at Mynriang village at 7.30 am. The team explained the Chief Minister’s Safe Motherhood Scheme and the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme. Officials say most families showed a positive response and promised to immunize their children. Staff continue to counsel holdouts who still prefer home births.
Dr. L. Nonglait held a late-evening meeting at Umiew Maw U Sam village on July 28. Topics included non-communicable diseases alongside standard care guidelines. Local leaders at the Village Dorbar pledged to bring families who have previously declined government services to future sessions. Health authorities stated the initiative reflects the commitment of workers to reach communities, saying, "The outreach programme aims to improve the uptake of maternal and child health services while strengthening community participation in public healthcare initiatives."
