Meghalaya Health Minister Calls for Legislative Support for TB Patients

Shillong: Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla wants state legislators to step up. On Sunday, he urged MLAs to adopt TB patients and supply the money needed for proper nutrition. Cases are dropping across Meghalaya, but the work is not done.

Shylla pointed to a persistent problem. Long treatment cycles often cause rural patients to stop taking their medicine. He highlighted that the state must boost awareness to ensure every patient finishes their full course. He said, "The prolonged nature of TB treatment often leads to a lack of follow-up, particularly among patients in rural areas."

Government efforts are currently in high gear. Officials launched the second phase of a 100-day tuberculosis campaign earlier this year to speed up detection and prevention. Data shows progress is happening on the ground. Exactly 1,258 villages are now TB-free, accounting for 18 per cent of the state.
