Meghalaya Health Minister Proposes Mobile App to Streamline Blood Donation

Shillong: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has proposed a new mobile application designed to connect blood banks, medical centers, and voluntary donors across Meghalaya. Announced ahead of World Blood Donor Day, the platform aims to provide real-time updates on blood stocks and allow users to reach out to donors instantly during emergencies.

Shylla emphasized that the state must overcome persistent misconceptions and fears surrounding the donation process. He noted that even in urban areas, unnecessary concerns often prevent people from giving blood. To address this, he called for consistent outreach efforts in public spaces, including markets and colleges, while suggesting that regular donors receive formal recognition for their contributions.

Addressing safety protocols, Shylla reassured the public that all blood undergoes mandatory testing before it is used. He stated, "Strict protocols are in place to ensure the safety of all recipients."

While the state currently maintains adequate blood supplies and has avoided shortages, the minister warned that major disasters could quickly deplete existing reserves. He encouraged young people to contribute to the healthcare system, describing blood donation as a vital act for the community.
