Shillong: The Meghalaya government has officially suspended all new proposals for foreign travel. This decision aligns with the recent austerity directive issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reduce unnecessary government expenditures.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the freeze, confirming that about seven to eight pending travel requests are currently on hold. He noted that he has also cancelled his own planned overseas trips to ensure full compliance with the new federal mandate.

The administration will allow only those foreign visits that secured political and financial clearance before the Prime Minister issued the directive. Sangma explained that international official trips require extensive preparation, including federal approvals, travel bookings, and coordination with foreign governments, making it impossible to stop those already in the final stages of the process.
