Meghalaya Government Plans New Infrastructure Near Umshyrpi Bridge

Shillong: The Meghalaya government intends to build a police station, a fire station, and a tourism information center near the Umshyrpi four-lane bridge. Officials also plan to provide land for a community office and hall to support traditional leaders in Upper Shillong.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong finalized these plans following a joint inspection with members of the Synjuk Ki Nong Synshar Shnong Upper Shillong. Local police leadership, including Assistant Inspector General Dr. Sacheng R Marak and East Khasi Hills Superintendent Vivek Syiem, attended the site visit and confirmed that the location is strategically sound for emergency services.

Tynsong noted that the government has already identified the necessary plots of land. He confirmed that the administration will soon hold departmental meetings to finalize the projects. Because the proposed sites sit near military property, the state will coordinate with defense authorities to secure the land.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the recent success of the Umshyrpi four-lane project, which cut travel time significantly from over an hour down to seven minutes. While the project has eased congestion, Tynsong announced that a final inspection will take place soon to identify and fix any remaining minor deficiencies alongside representatives from the National Highways department and local contractors.
