Shillong: Meghalaya’s Early Childhood Development Mission took home the Gold SKOCH Award in New Delhi. The state claimed the prize at the 108th SKOCH Summit, beating out competing projects through a rigorous process of expert reviews and public voting.
Judges evaluated nominees based on impact, documentation, and live presentations. The summit focus centered on the Regulatory Framework for Viksit Bharat. Meghalaya’s program stood out for combining healthcare, nutrition, and early learning into one framework.
The Social Welfare Department leads the project. It coordinates a massive network of stakeholders, including the Health and Education departments, self-help groups, and local faith-based organizations. "This prestigious recognition," said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in a social media post, highlights the state's work in improving child well-being.
The mission targets children during their most formative years. It pushes for better caregiving and shifts in local behavior. By plugging early childhood activities directly into self-help group networks, the state has built a support system that reaches deep into rural communities. Frontline workers and community partners execute the heavy lifting on the ground.
