Meghalaya CM launches road and bridge projects worth Rs 488 crore

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has launched four significant road and bridge infrastructure projects in the East and West Jaintia Hills districts. The total investment for these developments is valued at Rs 488 crore, aimed at enhancing local connectivity and supporting economic growth.

Three projects, representing an investment of Rs 412 crore, were inaugurated at Latyrke Playground. These include the 58.1-km Dkhiah-Sutnga-Saipung-Pala road upgrade, funded by the World Bank under the Meghalaya Logistics and Connectivity Improvement Project. Other works include the improvement of the 8.8-km Dkhiah-Sutnga-Saipung-Moulsei-Haflong road and the development of an approach road to Chympe Waterfalls along with the Sutnga-Khaddum road.

In Lumshyrmit village, Sangma laid the foundation stone for an 18.64-km project connecting Shkemtalang to Lumshyrmit. This initiative features a major bridge over the Myntdu River and is being executed under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme at a cost of Rs 76.43 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and several local officials joined the chief minister during the ceremony.

Sangma stated that tenders for these projects are already active, with construction work expected to commence within 45 days. He emphasized that these improvements will streamline access to healthcare and education while promoting tourism and agriculture in the region. Additionally, the chief minister pledged support for building an indoor stadium in Latyrke following requests from the local community.
