Shillong: Meghalaya is hardening its defenses against climate-driven health threats. Government officials gathered in Shillong on Friday to bolster the state One Health framework, a plan that weaves together human medicine, animal welfare, and environmental protection.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Sampath Kumar led the State Level Task Force meeting. Representatives from various departments attended the session. The group focused on how rising temperatures and shifting weather patterns force new risks onto the population. They identified zoonotic diseases, food safety, and antimicrobial resistance as top priorities for the state to manage.

The task force aims to fix gaps in how different agencies share data. Better coordination is the goal. Officials want to build a system that acts fast when a new threat hits the state. Experts pushed for better laboratory networks and clearer plans to handle future emergencies.

The state plans to draft a specific State One Health Action Plan to guide these changes. Officials said the move reflects a push for stronger partnerships, noting that the initiative reflects "Meghalaya's continued efforts to promote stronger partnerships across sectors in pursuit of a healthier, safer and more sustainable future through the One Health approach."
