Shillong: The Meghalaya government is waiting for the Prime Minister to confirm a date for the inauguration of the Shillong Medical College. Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla confirmed that previous attempts to schedule the event were abandoned due to conflicts in the Prime Minister's agenda.

Shylla noted that state officials remain in regular contact with the Prime Minister's Office regarding the ceremony. He recently raised the matter with the Union Health Minister during the opening of the ARHI Hospital to ensure the project remains a priority. Regarding the delay, Shylla explained to reporters, "Till now, not yet. On two earlier occasions we had decided on dates, but later something else came up, so we had to cancel it."

Despite the scheduling setbacks, the minister expressed optimism that a date will be finalized shortly. Beyond the Shillong project, the state is also making progress on the Tura Medical College. Shylla reported that the structural construction of the Tura facility is 95 percent complete.

While the building phase nears the finish line, the state is actively working to staff the new institution. The government has already advertised for faculty positions, though current interest from potential applicants has remained low.
