Shillong: A free health camp at Moheskola Bazaar treated 230 villagers in South Garo Hills on August 1. The initiative tackled chronic medical shortages in the remote region. Wildlife Trust of India, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council led the effort. A team of 45 medical professionals worked alongside the District Medical and Health Officer to provide diagnostics and care.
The State Forest Department and Moheskola Police Outpost handled logistics. The day started with talks on hygiene, maternal health, and disease prevention. These sessions reached 120 local students and 100 area residents. Midnightson Ch. Marak, a teacher at Moheskola Higher Secondary School, said the sessions provided students with vital information on hygiene and women’s health that was previously inaccessible.
Patients lined up for check-ups regarding common illnesses. Dr. Beljusth K. Sangma reported high community engagement. Moheskola headman Gilnesh Ch. Marak thanked the organizers, noting that for many families, this was the first medical consultation available to them in months. The project follows the One Health model from the Wildlife Trust of India, which links human and animal wellness to shared ecosystems. Parents left the site relieved after getting their children treated.
