Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) held an awareness program at the ST Girls Hostel of Adimjati Shiksha Ashram to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Day. The event, held under the theme Together for a PeriodFriendlyWorld, aimed to educate students on health and hygiene practices.
MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang led the program alongside commission members S.K. Sophia and W. Phajatombi Devi. Monsang emphasized that the commission focuses on outreach activities beyond handling legal cases. She noted that educating adolescent girls is crucial to preventing health issues and eliminating the stigma often associated with menstruation.
Addressing the more than ninety students in attendance, the chairperson encouraged them to share this knowledge within their home communities. She highlighted the significance of the date, noting that May 28 represents the average 28-day cycle and five-day duration of menstruation. The hostel serves as a home for many tribal students from hill districts, making it a key location for the commission to foster awareness.
W. Phajatombi Devi opened the event by advising students to prioritize their reproductive health and consult medical professionals if they experience discomfort. The program also featured A.S. Wungzip Zimik, a sports nutritionist for OGQ, who provided guidance on maintaining physical and mental wellness through proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits.
