Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified operations against regional crime, resulting in the arrest of a suspected militant and the seizure of large quantities of illicit alcohol. Authorities captured Heisnam Jiban Singh, 51, in the Lamlong area on May 26. Officials identified the suspect as a member of the United National Liberation Front, a proscribed organization.

Following his arrest, investigators searched the Langol area based on information provided during interrogation. The search resulted in the recovery of 18 wooden weaving machines believed to have been extorted from local artisans and residents. Officers also seized a 9 mm pistol, a magazine, and three live rounds of ammunition.

In a separate operation that same day, police in the Tengnoupal district targeted the illegal liquor trade. Officers detained Moirangthem Tomba Singh and Naorem Bembem Devi in Pallel Maning Leikai. The raid led to the seizure of hundreds of bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and nearly 400 liters of locally produced DIC liquor.

These actions are part of a broader crackdown on criminal networks and insurgency-related extortion that currently threaten local businesses and traders. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into both cases remain ongoing.
