Manipur Police Log 58 Cases Along Troubled Highway

Imphal: Police registered 58 FIRs for crimes along National Highway 202 in Manipur since ethnic fighting flared up. The clashes between Kuki and Naga communities began on February 8, 2026. Ukhrul district police disclosed the numbers in an August 25 status report filed with the Manipur High Court.

This litigation demands safe passage for civilians and supply trucks. NH-202 serves as the vital economic lifeline for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. It connects both regions to Imphal. Authorities vowed to keep the road clear. They perform road-opening operations and provide vehicle escorts.

The state has deployed two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force, nine companies of the Border Security Force, and eight columns from the Army and Assam Rifles. Manipur Rifles personnel are also on the ground. Officers confirmed they are taking "prompt, firm and impartial legal and operational measures" to maintain safety.

Investigators sent two cases to the National Investigation Agency. One case involves Kuki victims, the other involves Tangkhul victims. The police stated, "Due process is underway to refer other cases." Beyond these incidents, at least 20 people died in firing across Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts during this conflict.
