Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh pledged to resolve growing demographic concerns within the boundaries of the Constitution. The state government convened a two-day consultative seminar at the Imperial Hall of Classic Grande in Chingmeirong to tackle these issues. The Home Department and the Manipur State Population Commission hosted the event.
Key officials including Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh attended the session. They sat alongside legal experts, scholars, Ima Lup leaders, and various community representatives. Discussions focused on the Population Census, the National Register of Citizens, and citizenship laws. The Chief Minister expects the findings will steer future government policy.
The Home Minister wants better collaboration. He proposed forming a committee to bridge the gap between the state and local groups. He said, "The recommendations submitted by participants would be examined carefully by the government and would serve as important inputs in pursuing Manipur’s concerns with the Central Government."
Technical sessions continue through tomorrow. Experts plan to finalize recommendations for legal and policy action. The government aims to balance public demands with existing law. Officials insist that all future decisions will follow public consultation and strict constitutional protocols.
