Manipur Journalists Demand End to Unauthorized Content Reproduction

Imphal: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and the Editors’ Guild Manipur are drawing a line in the sand. They told digital media platforms, YouTube channels, and social media pages to stop ripping off original reporting. Stop the unauthorized reproduction of news.

A joint committee from both unions issued the warning following a trend of outlets cropping, editing, and distorting headlines and video clips. These practices often twist the original meaning or attach views the journalists never expressed. Digital platforms must stop downloading and uploading television programs without clearance. They also need to quit reprinting entire newspapers as soon as they hit the stands.

The unions are not trying to kill discourse. They confirmed that sharing links from official websites or verified pages is perfectly fine. The committee stated, "limited quotations for purposes such as reviews, criticisms, and discussions are encouraged." Stick to these rules. Stop stealing the hard work of newsrooms.
