Imphal: The Makui Village Authority has strongly condemned the destruction of two Kubota ploughing machines in the village's paddy fields, describing the incident as a serious act of vandalism that threatens the livelihood of farming families and undermines peace in the area.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the Village Authority said the agricultural machinery was allegedly damaged during the night of July 9, 2026. The statement attributed the act to "Kuki miscreants."
The Authority said the destruction of the machines had caused significant financial losses to their owners and could adversely affect ongoing agricultural activities on which many families depend for their livelihood.
Calling the incident unacceptable, the Village Authority urged the individual or individuals responsible to surrender before the Village Authority and cooperate with the village court in accordance with customary law and due process.
"Taking responsibility for one's actions is the appropriate course and may help prevent further escalation," the statement said.
At the same time, the Authority appealed to residents and the wider public to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory actions that could worsen tensions.
It emphasized that justice should be pursued through lawful and established legal mechanisms rather than through acts of revenge or reprisal.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace, the Village Authority said it would continue working to protect the rights and property of residents while ensuring that those found responsible are held accountable through appropriate legal and customary procedures.
The statement concluded with a call for cooperation from all sections of the community in preserving peace, unity, and mutual respect.
