Lotha Organizations Discuss Nagaland-Assam Border Tensions

Kohima: Various Lotha organizations convened at Liphayan Village on Friday to address ongoing border tensions between Nagaland and Assam. The meeting included the Lotha Students Union, the Lotha Youth Hoho, and several other community groups, focusing on the sensitive situation within the Disputed Area Belt.

A primary concern raised during the session involved the reported construction of temporary structures by the Assam Police. The Lotha Students Union urged for these structures to be removed and replaced with a permanent camp managed jointly by the Nagaland Police and the state Forest Department. Representatives emphasized the need for official adherence to the Supreme Court directive that requires maintaining the status quo in the region.

Addressing the complexity of the ongoing border disputes, LSU president S. Zubenthung Ngullie noted that while several issues were discussed, some matters would remain private for now. He stated that some aspects of the matter were “confidential and complicated,” but confirmed that the organizations plan to take concrete steps to address these challenges soon.

Participants also discussed allegations regarding mining activities and the Amrit Sarovar scheme. The group declined to provide immediate details on these claims, promising a formal clarification would be released to the media after further review. The leadership emphasized the need for unity across all Lotha regions and announced plans to consult with local MLAs to ensure government accountability, noting that collective public participation is vital for a resolution.
