Kohima: LEMSACHENLOK collaborated with the Longleng Forest Division and Hükphang Village Council on June 5 to observe World Environment Day 2026. Held under the theme Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future, the event brought together officials, researchers, and students to focus on biodiversity and sustainable development.
A major development during the ceremony was the formal introduction of several conservation and rural innovation initiatives. These include a new organizational website, a digitalized web portal for the Biodiversity Peace Corridor, and a Rural Innovative Grain Storage system. The program also established new research partnerships and presented the inaugural LEMSACHENLOK Local Initiatives Global Impact Awards to honor excellence in community conservation areas.
Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom, and Dr. Suresh Chand from the Zoological Survey of India attended the gathering. The speakers emphasized that building a resilient future requires strengthening cooperation between government bodies, academic institutions, and local communities. Dr. Suresh Chand noted that the event was an opportunity to highlight the necessity of collective action, stating, “The programme further witnessed the recognition of two outstanding AlijoCademia and the declaration of the LEMSACHENLOK Local Initiatives Global Impact Awards 2026.”
The cultural portion of the day featured a thematic play by the Hükphang AlijoCademia and traditional folk dances. The celebration concluded with a tree-planting ceremony and an exhibition showcasing crafts and conservation skills developed by local community groups.
