Kohima: The Kuda Village Council is firing back. It expressed shock over a group calling itself the Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan Dimapur. The council rejects the forum's September 10 press release, which fought a resolution from the United Colony Council. Kuda officials say they know nothing about this outfit.
History matters here. The village started in 1941. It currently operates under the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978. The name switch from Nagarjan to Kuda Village became official in 2008. The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the move on July 14, 2008, followed by a state government notification on September 2, 2008.
The council drew a hard line regarding local identity. Section 15(a) of the 1978 Act prohibits unauthorized groups from using the names Kuda Village or Nagarjan. The KVC stated, "any group doing so will operate at its own risk and attract penal provisions at its own cost and peril." No one gets to use these names without written permission from village authorities.
