Shillong: Former Indian cricket captain Kris Srikkanth beamed into a room of hundreds of students on Saturday. He spoke to them from a screen during a youth convention at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Shillong. The event marked 125 years since Swami Vivekananda visited the city.
Srikkanth drew on his 1983 World Cup glory to preach a simple gospel. He told kids from nearly 40 schools that winning requires more than just talent. He urged them to hold onto discipline, dedication, and self-belief while chasing their ambitions. "Pursue their goals with discipline, dedication and self-belief," the former captain told the crowd during the virtual session.
The day was packed with action. Experts led yoga and meditation sessions to focus young minds. Students took to the stage for cultural performances, traditional songs, and a skit about the life of Swami Vivekananda. Vedic chants and the National Anthem framed the day, which organisers designed to turn teenagers into responsible citizens. The convention ended with a panel discussion between the students and experts.
